Our research in plant taxonomy aims to classify and describe the diverse flora of the Western Ghats, including the discovery of new species. Conservation efforts focus on safeguarding endangered and native plant species through scientific documentation, ecological studies, and strategic preservation initiatives.
Living collections
Garden Management
The Garden Management unit conserves and showcases a wide range of native and rare plant species from the Western Ghats, including orchids, balsams, medicinal plants, aquatic species, bamboos, palms, and xerophytes. These living collections are maintained in habitat-specific zones to support research and species conservation.
The gardens also serve as learning spaces for students, researchers, and forest officials. Through guided tours and outreach programs, they promote public awareness about Kerala’s rich plant diversity and the importance of preserving it.
